I finished this painting June 10th, 2026, titled “The Ranch, Little Drakes—February 1978”. I used a photo my friend Bill Coleman took from the Little Drakes cabana on the Hollister Ranch. I started it May 3rd, and took 138 hours to complete. It’s 12”x18”, acrylic on canvas. Probably my favorite wave in the Ranch, or California for that matter. The view inside the barrel of this wave was part of my inspiration for creating the design of the original Surfrider Foundation logo. I realize it’s probably not that interesting of an image for non-surfers, but a beautiful, perfect empty wave excites the stoke and imagination of us surfers.
